What is Forest School?
The heart of Forest School is bringing children into nature to play, discover, grow and build connections with the land and those around them. Forest School takes place at the same location on a repeated basis for an extended period of time-aiding relationship to place. Learning is supported by a pedagogical framework that is rooted in play and place. The learning is child-led and is guided by the practitioner through inquiry.
Why Forest School?
Forest School offers children the opportunity to reconnect with nature in a world that increasingly disconnects us from it. This child-led, outdoor environment encourages movement, exploration, and creativity, allowing children to grow, build resilience, and develop essential life skills. A key benefit of Forest School is its support of sensory processing. Sensory input plays a vital role in how children engage with the world, and understanding how they process sensory information helps us better understand their behavior. Many children struggle to focus in traditional settings due to sensory overload or lack of stimulation. Forest School provides the movement and sensory experiences children need, helping them thrive emotionally, academically, and in their connection to the natural world. In a time when connection is more vital than ever, Forest School gives children the space to move, explore, and learn in harmony with nature.
Forest School and Sensory Processing
Forest School offers a uniquely sensory-rich experience by immersing children in the natural world. Surrounded by the sights, sounds, and textures of the forest, children engage all their senses as they explore their environment. This dynamic setting provides the space for children to run, climb, jump in puddles, dig, and interact with natural elements, fostering physical activity and connection with nature in a way that traditional classrooms simply can't offer.

Connection to Nature
Spending time in nature offers children a vital opportunity to forge a deep connection with the environment. Through hands-on exploration, outdoor activities, and unstructured play, children develop a natural bond with the land, fostering a sense of wonder, respect, and responsibility. This connection not only nurtures their physical, emotional, spiritual, and cognitive growth, but also instills a lasting appreciation for the natural world. By engaging with nature, children grow into individuals who are not only more attuned to the environment but also motivated to become future stewards, dedicated to protecting and preserving the earth for generations to come.
